NEW ERA marks every May 9 with the global cultural celebration of “59FIFTY® Day. NEW ERA embraces the theme “The Gold Standard,” highlighting the unique fitted sizing system of the 59FIFTY®. Unlike the adjustable caps commonly found in the market, the 59FIFTY® insists on precise, segmented sizes designed to deliver a tailored fit for every wearer. This uncompromising pursuit of “exclusive sizing” has set the benchmark for quality since its debut in 1954, and in 1993 it was officially adopted as the on‑field cap of Major League Baseball. By 1996, the 59FIFTY® had crossed beyond the ballpark into popular culture, maintaining its iconic status across generations. This year, the golden 59FIFTY® sticker—symbolizing high quality and “The Gold Standard”—will appear worldwide as a distinctive visual emblem, cementing its place as the ultimate icon in the world of headwear.

To celebrate the annual 59FIFTY® Day, NEW ERA Hong Kong official online store (neweracap.hk) and stores will exclusively launch a series of limited NEW ERA items, including five 59FIFTY® caps, three newly designed metal badges, and one mini cap accessory. Available in limited quantities, once gone, they will not return. The collection interprets the versatile character of the 59FIFTY® through different fabrics: the 59FIFTY® Split Panel crafted in dyed twill nylon with a three‑dimensional silicone wordmark; the 59FIFTY® A‑Frame combining three looms corduroy with chainstitch embroidery details; and the 59FIFTY® Low Profile featuring linen with a faux leather visor. In addition, the lineup includes a classic 59FIFTY® in black velvet for a rich texture, the 59FIFTY® Retro Crown in seersucker fabric paying tribute to the brand’s birthplace Buffalo, and the collectible Mini Cap accessory. At the same time, the series introduces several newly designed metal badges, offering enthusiasts more diverse styling options.

In addition, this year NEW ERA is also launching multiple 59FIFTY® caps across the MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL series. The designs focus on embroidering the legendary team logos or abbreviations, presented in a clean and streamlined style. Through these classic designs, every fan can wear a 59FIFTY® baseball cap as the most direct way to support their favorite team in everyday outfits, carrying forward a sporting aesthetic that transcends generations.

During the 1996 World Series, Spike Lee made a call to Chris Koch, New Era’s CEO, with an unprecedented request: a red New York Yankees cap—far from the franchise’s traditional navy blue—to match the jacket he wanted to wear to Game 3.

At the time, MLB caps were only produced in the official team colorways, making Spike’s ask a challenge to convention at the highest level. Yankees Principal Owner George Steinbrenner and MLB approved Lee’s special request, and Chris Koch pushed boundaries and delivered. The approval was truly a first for any sports league or team, allowing NEW ERA to evolve the 59FIFTY® cap beyond the baseball field and into lifestyle streetwear. When Spike wore the 59FIFTY® red Yankees cap to Game 3 of the World Series, what followed became a defining moment in culture, officially merging sportswear and fashion.

To honor this history, NEW ERA introduces the Spike Lee Commemorative Collection, comprising seven styles: one legendary red Yankees cap and six classic navy designs. The collection will be released in phases as limited editions exclusively on neweracap.hk, paying tribute to a legendary partnership that shaped pop culture.

The 59FIFTY® Day 2026 celebrations also mark the launch of the FFALO collection. This release features both the standard 7cm FFALO and a 20cm FFALO, marking the first time the 20cm version is being launched. Both sizes share a cohesive design and incorporate unique details, including a glow-in-the-dark effect and New Era–branded graphic tattoos on the FFALO’s arms, showcasing the brand’s creative expansion beyond headwear.
